World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on 4 February to raise awareness about cancer, its prevention, detection and treatment. The primary goal of celebrating World Cancer Day is to reduce the deaths due to cancer disease. Cancer Day was first celebrated in the year 1933 in the city of Geneva, Switzerland. At present, 76 lakh people die every year due to cancer disease across the world, out of which 40 lakh people die prematurely i.e. in the age group of 30-69 years. Therefore, the main purpose of celebrating this day is to develop practical strategies to deal with cancer along with increasing awareness about this disease.

World Cancer Day is observed every year on 4 February. Cancer Day was first celebrated in 1933 in the city of Geneva, Switzerland. The organization works under the leadership of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to address the rapidly growing incidence of cancer worldwide and support the goals of reducing mortality. According to information, at that time about 12.7 million people were suffering from cancer and every year about 7 million people were dying due to cancer.

This year's theme 'close the care' has been kept, this theme has been kept by IUCC under the ongoing campaign for 3 years, which will run till the year 2022, 2023 and 2024.
